Design
Like the Star Wars: The Old Republic Gaming Headphones also offered by Razer, the gaming mouse is grey, black, and covered in Star Wars imagery. The charging base is hexagonal like TIE Fighter wings or the logos of the Sith or Galactic Empires, and two interchangeable plates on the right palm side of the mouse show glowing Republic and Empire insignia.

The layout is identical to the Naga mice. Instead of one or two thumb buttons on the left side of the mouse, four rows of three buttons cover the entire command bar used by most MMOs, and can be switched from the number row (1 to = above the QWERTY keys) to the number pad (the number/directional buttons to the right of the arrow keys) with a switch on the bottom. If you plug the USB cable into the charging base, you can rest the mouse on the base to charge it and use it without any cables whenever you want. If you plug the USB cable into the mouse itself and flip the mode switch on the bottom from Wireless to Wired/Charging, you can use it as a wired mouse while charging it without the dock. It's a great way to keep using your mouse when the battery runs low and you don't want to swap batteries between the mouse and charger. It also offers the speed of a wired connection instead of wireless latency, but in my tests the mouse behaved identically in wired and wireless modes.

Performance
For MMOs, the mouse feels good. The number pad works as well under the thumb as it does in the Razer Naga mice. Quick access to the entire command bar, freeing up your left hand entirely for movement and other actions. For action games, it's not quite as intuitive, because of the number pad layout compared to a few large, easy to find thumb buttons or a four-way switch. When many commands are found through sub menus with the number keys like in Team Fortress 2, though, it works well to make a few things quicker. For regular Web browsing, the two buttons below the wheel work as forward/back buttons, and while they're not as convenient as thumb buttons, they're still a useful feature that keeps the mouse from being solely for MMO gaming.

Like its name and design imply, the Star Wars: The Old Republic Gaming Mouse is designed primarily for Star Wars: The Old Republic, and while its number pad works well with any game that uses an action bar, TOR players will get an additional bonus. This is Friday Night Lights the TV show, but real. Or the book Friday Night Lights?come to life. ?Or Hoop Dreams for football.

The film is only playing in a few?theaters?around the country, but it?s expanding this weekend. Judging by the five people total in the theater Monday night, it should arrive on DVD and Netflix soon enough. Just see it, okay?

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) ? Struggling cell phone maker Nokia kicked off the world's largest mobile phone trade show Monday by unveiling a new low-cost Windows smartphone that operators could give away free to customers, and another aimed at snap-happy consumers demanding better photo quality.

Chief executive Stephen Elop told reporters at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona that the new phones ? a low-price euro189 ($254) smartphone that runs on Windows software and the , a handset with a high-resolution 41 megapixel camera ? demonstrate "the actions necessary to improve the fortunes of Nokia."

"With great products for consumers, I think the rest will fall into place," Elop said.

In many countries, cell phone companies subsidize the sale of smartphones to customers who sign contracts. The low price of the new phone means their out-of-pocket costs would be low, even if they give the handset away.

But shares of Finland's Nokia Corp. were down more 6 percent to euro4.07 ($5.45) in Helsinki Monday afternoon after the announcements, erasing gains made Friday on investor hopes that Nokia would map out bolder plans to claw back market share.

Nokia launched its first Windows Phone in October, eight months after Elop announced a partnership with Microsoft Corp., in a major strategy shift for the firm. Nokia said it would gradually replace its old Symbian software in its smartphones with the Windows operating system.

Neil Mawston, a London-based analyst for Strategy Analytics, said Nokia's new PureView 808 high-resolution camera phone was impressive ? but that markets were expecting more.

"Technologically it is 'wow' but they have integrated it into a Symbian phone which is viewed as, rightly or wrongly, yesterday's technology, whereas I think there was some expectation that it might be in a Windows phone which is tomorrow's technology," Mawston said.

Nokia has lost its once-dominant position in the global cell phone market, with handsets running on Google's Android software and iPhones from Apple enjoying booming popularity.

The Finnish company is attempting a comeback with smartphones using Microsoft's Windows software in what Elop has called a "war of ecosystems."

"We will accelerate our global reach with new mobile devices and services," Elop said.

Malik Saadi, an analyst at the London-based Informa Telecoms & Media, said the introduction of the budget Lumia 610 budget smartphone meant Nokia was closer to having entry-level smartphones equipped with Windows Phone 7 mobile software and that the company would "finally open innovation and differentiation in a market that was otherwise dominated by Android."

The new phones were introduced less than three weeks after Nokia announced plans to stop assembling cell phones in Europe by the year-end as it shifts production to Asia and to cut another 4,000 jobs ? its latest attempts to cushion itself from stiff competition in the smartphone sector. The job cuts follow nearly 10,000 layoffs announced last year.

Once the bellwether of the industry, Nokia has lost its dominant position in the global mobile phone market, with Android phones and Apple's iPhones overtaking it in the growing smartphone segment. It's also been squeezed in the low-end by Asian manufacturers making cheaper phones, such as ZTE.

Nokia became the leading handset maker in 1998 and reached 40 per cent market share in 2008, but the company has gradually lost share since then ? falling to below 30 per cent last year.

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Xavier Alvarez was in good company when he stood up at a public meeting and called himself a wounded war veteran who had received the top military award, the Medal of Honor.

Alvarez was lying about his medal, his wounds and his military service, but he wasn't the first man to invent war exploits.

He was, however, one of the first people prosecuted under a 2006 federal law aimed at curbing false claims of military valor.

Concerns that the law improperly limits speech and turns people into criminals for things they say, rather than do, are at the heart of the Supreme Court's review of his case and the Stolen Valor Act.

Veterans groups have come to the aid of the Obama administration, which calls the law a narrowly crafted effort to protect the system of military awards that was established during the Revolutionary war by Gen. George Washington. The high court will hear the case Wednesday, which is Washington's 280th birthday.

"They're committing fraud. They're impersonating somebody else. They take on attributes of somebody else, attributes of a hero who served honorably," said Pam Sterner, whose college term paper calling for the law wound up in the hands of members of Congress. "When you do that, impersonating someone else, that's fraud, not freedom of speech."

Civil liberties groups, writers, publishers and news media outlets, including The Associated Press, have told the justices they worry the law, and especially the administration's defense of it, could lead to more attempts by government to regulate speech.

When he established military decorations in 1782, seven years before he was elected as the nation's first president, Washington himself also prescribed severe military punishment for soldiers who purported to be medal winners but weren't. Since then, many men have embellished their war records, and some have won special recognition.

It long has been a federal crime to wear unearned medals, but mere claims of being decorated were beyond the reach of law enforcement.

"The admiration and respect for the military increased dramatically after 9/11 and the false claims, as well," said Thomas A. Cottone Jr., a retired FBI agent who investigated phony award cases.

Alvarez made his claims by way of introducing himself as an elected member of the Three Valleys Municipal Water District in Pomona, Calif. There is nothing to suggest that he received anything in exchange or that listeners especially believed him.

Doug Sterner's database did not save Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, from some embarrassment when he invited cameras and reporters to watch him pin medals on an elderly Korean War veteran in June.

The veteran, Myron Brown of Utah, said his Distinguished Service Cross and Silver Star were awarded belatedly, and he asked Chaffetz to present them to him publicly.

After the ceremony took place, Sterner and others raised questions about the medals and the Pentagon confirmed to Chaffetz in December that they were not authentic.

"Others have been burned by this. I have too, but I want to solve the problem," Chaffetz told the Salt Lake Tribune. He is planning a hearing of the House Oversight and Government Reform subcommittee he leads to explore creating a government-run awards database.

Her longtime bodyguard, Ray, who found her body in a Beverly Hills hotel room, wanted people to remember Houston the woman and not just the singer, adding that entertainers in general should be treated with more respect. He was referring to Houston's tarnished image in the media after years of battling addiction. "We have to give back to all our entertainers. Treat them with love and stop ridiculing them," he said. "They give their lives to you. They're not with their families. This lady right here, she loved you. I know that. I was with her every day."

Controversial R&B singer R. Kelly sang a song he wrote for Houston, "I Look to You," moments before one of the ceremony's final performances, "Tomorrow," by the Winans family. It was followed by the eulogy given by Marvin Winans.

New Prostate Cancer Treatment Drugs Could Pack Double Punch ...

NEW YORK, Feb. 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ ??The arsenal of prostate cancer treatments for men with advanced prostate cancer may soon be strengthened as the FDA prioritizes the review of both Ra-223 and MDV3100 for treating metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC). Based on positive, independent research of each drug, better survival rates and improved bone health for patients with late-stage prostate cancer may be within reach.?

Dr. David Samadi is Vice Chairman, Department of Urology, and Chief of Robotics and Minimally Invasive Surgery at The Mount Sinai Medical Center and a leading robotic surgery expert and PSA test advocate. He commended the efforts behind these advancements by saying, ?I'm encouraged to see advanced prostate cancer treatment drugs that may not only extend life, but do so with improved patient health. That's the key ? prolonging life with quality.? Previous drug therapies, such as Provenge or Zytiga, have proven to extend survival rates, though do not offer additional benefits to the patient.

The drug Radium-223 chloride, also known as Ra-223 or Alpharadin, delivers radiation to the bone and the prostate cancer tumor. In trial, the drug improved patient survival by an average of three months. In addition, patients undergoing Ra-223 drug therapy experienced delayed bone damage or need for surgery or radiation by more than five months.

Medivation, or MDV3100, is an androgen inhibitor that prevents prostate cancer tumor growth by binding with cancer cell receptors. Patient trials with MDV3100 proved improved survival rates by nearly five months. Further, the drug caused tumor shrinkage in close to 30 percent of men, a 50 percent decline in PSA level, and an overall reduction in risk of death by 37 percent.

Improved survival rates of three to five months may sound minimal, but these drugs each present a significant opportunity for men with a disease that, in its advanced stages, can progress very quickly. What's more, experts believe using these drug therapies in a layered approach could provide even greater impact on survival rates for men with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancers over the next few years.

?In recent months, we've seen the launch of various drug therapies targeting metastatic prostate cancer,? said Dr. Samadi, ?but the combined survival benefits, tumor shrinkage, and bone improvements with these drugs could lead to a double punch approach. Unlocking the power of how they might work together could mean longer and better lives for these patients.? Further research will be conducted to evaluate the extent to which combining or sequencing Ra-223 and MDV3100 would provide additional survival and health benefits.

Prostate cancer is believed to be a hormone-fed disease that thrives in the presence of testosterone. Castration-resistant prostate cancer is named for its resistance to testosterone-lowering treatment therapies.

As a robotic prostatectomy expert, Dr. Samadi addressed the limited benefits of late-stage advancements by saying, ?The more we do on the front end of this disease ? improving diagnostic tools, getting behind the PSA test for early diagnosis, strengthening treatment choices ? the less need there would be for costly drugs that offer relatively short-term returns.?

Based on both drugs' exemplary trial results and limited side effects, experts are hopeful that Ra-223 and MDV3100 will become available for FDA-approved patient use this year.
